Concrete roads could save billions over asphalt, according to recent PCA report
01/24/12
Since 2005, liquid asphalt prices have increased 12 percent annually, while concrete has only risen by 4 percent. A recent report by the Portland Cement Association (PCA) concludes that states are not taking full advantage of the cost savings that concrete affords. The report says that flawed procurement practices used by many state departments of transportation (DOT) are to blame because they inaccurately indicate lower “initial bid” and “lifecycle” costs for asphalt compared to concrete. 09/16/2011
Have you checked your backups lately? If your backups aren’t working properly, you could lose valuable information forever. Industry News: Infrastructure performance management practices could save millions
08/02/11
A new white paper explains how three common economic, design and bidding tools, when used together, can save state taxpayers tens of millions of dollars in infrastructure costs. The paper describes the benefits of using life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA), alternate design/alternate bid (ADAB) and mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide (MEPDG) in planning and contracting activities. In a recent article on concreteconstruction.net, Portland Cement Association President Brian McCarthy noted, "A few states already implement one or two of these tools and this paper clearly illustrate how using them together allows states to do more with the money they have. To not fully utilize these tools is to misuse millions of taxpayer dollars.” Read the white paper.
