2010 Expected to be Slow Year for Construction

While indicators may suggest a turn-around for the economy in general, conditions for the construction industry are likely to be weak for another year or more, according a recent forecast from the Portland Cement Association (PCA). The group expects only a modest increase in cement consumption in 2010 with significant growth in 2011 and beyond. State deficits and the slow release of federal stimulus money are the two major factors. Read the entire article at Concrete Construction Online.

This article from NPR, includes commentary from a Haitian earthquake engineer, regarding the effect of the earthquake on a poor country with no national builidng codes.

Scientists develop new concrete that stretches, bends, and even heals it own cracks.

When concrete fails, its brittle nature is usually to blame. For example, when concrete stretches beyond its original size, cracks form, and it no longer carries a load. A team of scientists at the University of Michigan has created a concrete material that stretches, bends, and even heals its own cracks. The new material, called Engineered Cement Composite (ECC) can remain safe even when stretched to 5% beyond its original size. Read the entire article at Concrete Construction Online.

Your aSa website, only easier to search

The industry news, user documentation, and program updates that we have been bringing you for years have not changed, they are now just easier to find. The aSa website has more than 500 pages and documents full of useful information. Up until now, only a fraction of those were searchable using the website search tool.
A few weeks ago, we implemented a new search tool, which indexes virtually every word of content on the website, ranks results based on the keyword(s), and even includes the supported section of the website (if you are currently logged into the Support site). We hope that you find the search tool more useful, and always welcome feedback: multimedia@asahq.com. To use the search, simply type in a keyword in the search field in the upper-left corner of any webpage, or go directly to the aSa Site Search page:
